A chronological glimpse of our growth.
- July 1, 1985:
Florida Eye Institute opens.
- October 9, 1986:
First surgical procedure performed at the Institute.
- February 1, 1987:
Project Community Caring begun.
- December 12, 1987:
Florida Eye Institute Foundation established.
- July 17, 1989:
Dr. Karen D. Todd joins staff as glaucoma and corneal transplant specialist.
- June 5, 1994:
New addition with expanded surgical facilities opens. Original building becomes Family Ophthalmology Center
- August 26, 1994:
General anesthesia performed at the Surgicenter.
- Spring, 1996:
The Florida Eye Institute Laser Center opens. First PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) procedure performed.
- April, 1996:
Dr. James E. Copeland, Jr. and Dr. Robert D. Holstrom join the staff. Together, they add over 50 years of general ophthalmology experience to the Institute.
- February 14, 1997:
First LASIK laser vision correction procedure performed.
- July 9, 2001:
Dr. Thomas A. Baudo joins staff as a specialist in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous.
- November, 2002:
The Florida Eye Institute Laser Center upgrades to the LADARVision tracking excimer laser for the laser correction of nearsightedness and farsightedness with and without astigmatism.
- July 1, 2002:
Dr. Val Zudans joins the staff specializing in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and general ophthalmology.
- January 2007
Wilson K. Wallace joins the practice, focusing on General Ophthalmology.
Florida Eye Institute Surgicenter receives AAAHC Accreditation.
