Crystalens IOL

The Crystalens IOL is an artificial lens implant that can replace the natural lens of the eye, often when it has turned into a cataract, and can give a greater range of vision than that of monofocal lens implants (like the Softec HD lens). It is not a multi-focal IOL like the ReSTOR and Tecnis Multifocal lenses, but is an accommodating lens.

The Crystalens was modeled after the mechanisms of the natural eye. It uses the same muscles that the eye used before presbyopia (loss of reading vision usually around the age of 40-45) sets in. It is designed to allow the optic, or the central circular part of the lens that you see through, to move back and forth as you constantly change focus on images around you. This often results in greater independence from glasses, both distance and reading, after lens exchange (or cataract surgery)

The Crystalens was the first presbyopia-correcting IOL introduced in the US. It is also currently the only FDA approved accommodating IOL in the United States.

Dr. Zudans offers the Crystalens to patients who are eligible and are seeking greater independence from glasses after lens exchange (or cataract surgery). To schedule an appointment, call 772-569-9500 or request an appointment online.
