Florida Eye Institute. Two locations on the Treasure Coast. World class physicians and staff. State-of-the-art diagnostics and a commitment to the wellbeing of our patients.

Dr. Karen Todd:

One of the things that I love about practicing at the Florida Eye Institute is that I love practicing in a small town. These are our friends and neighbors. I feel great about my partners, the other people that I work with. They all are in this together for the benefit of the patient, to do what they need, no more than they need, the best solution, the least risk, and the least cost.

Patient Henry Bock:

After having the cataracts removed, it was a whole new world for me. The colors were brilliant. You could almost say, “It’s like being born all over again.” It was spectacular, and it was painless. When I come in here, it’s like coming home. Everyone is so friendly and nice. It’s just a wonderful experience.

Dr. Christopher Shumake:

In my field, we see a lot of what we call “surface disorders”. It can be people from, really, just straightforward as “dry eye”, which is really a lot more complex than you would think, to disease and injuries to the actual cornea tissue itself. And, those patients need transplantation. To be able to restore that sight in someone is really gratifying, both to the patient and to me.

Patient Norma Howell:

My sight, to me, is top priority because, you lose your sight, you lose all of your independence. And, so, with me, it was scary. After meeting Dr. Shumake, I just had a peace. I had a joy. I knew I was going to be okay. And, my life is just 100 plus percent.

Dr. Val Zudans:

The most common surgery I perform is cataract surgery, which is to take the cloudy lens out when patients get older, and replace that with a new clear lens to allow them to see better. What I do now is, basically, what I decided to do when I was a little kid, which is to help people to see better. It’s great. It’s wonderful to change someone’s life for the better.

Patient Stephanie Nagel:

Prior to coming here, I wore glasses. And, the fact is, I don’t have any need for glasses. I probably have better vision than I ever did, thanks to Dr. Zudans and his expertise.

Dr. Thomas Baudo:

When macular degeneration attacks people, they lose their central vision. They get distortions. They can’t see faces. The treatments for macular degeneration injections are really pretty easy. They’re painless, and they actually have been able to change people’s lives. Our staff here is really an amazing group of people, and they all really care about the patients as much as the doctors do.

Patient Patricia Bloom:

I noticed that I wasn’t seeing as clearly. Well, actually, at my regular optometrist. He just indicated that he wanted me to see a specialist, because he saw something unusual. And, when I saw Dr. Baudo, I just thought he was the best. I mean, he just put me at ease. His staff is friendly and courteous. They make you feel like you’re a valued patient.
